South West Anti-Bullying Accreditation Scheme
The devistating long lasting effects of bullying are well known. Swindon Ten to Eighteen Project are commited through the Anti-Bullying Accreditation Scheme to combating all apsects of bullying within our organaisation and throughout our community.
We are pleased to be the first non school setting in Swindon that has successfully achieved 'Full Accreditation' in the second year of working towards accreditation of the South West Anti-Bullying Accreditation Scheme. Over the last two years, Tracey Thompson (Project Worker) has been working hard with some of the young people who attend our project and training them as Peer Mentors. The training carried out by the NSPCC has been a great success at STEP, and has kept all types of bullying within our groups to a minimum.
About the Scheme
To obtain the Anti-bullying Accreditation, schools/non school settings must meet the following eight criteria:
•a member of the senior leadership team to be responsible for and lead the accreditation scheme within the school/organisation;
•the school/non school setting has an anti-bullying policy which is owned, understood and implemented by the whole community;
•has an Anti-Bullying Interest Group led by senior management/ senior leadership team member;
•has a named governor/trustee with a responsibility for anti-bullying;
•will ensure that staff receive necessary training;
•will ensure that anti-bullying is included in the personal, social, health and education curriculum/session plans
•establishes a peer support scheme involving young people within the organisation;
•parental involvement is established.
Anti-Bullying Interest Group
A group of committed people need to work together to ensure this scheme can work. Therefore, an Anti-Bullying interest group has been set up to oversee and monitor all aspects of anti-bullying within our Organisation. Within this interest group there is a named Trustee (Sylvia Snelson) with the responsibility for anti-bullying. Other members of the group are made up of:
•Parents
•Young People
•Youth Workers / Volunteers
•Members of wider community, e.g. Police.
If anyone is interested in joining the Anti-Bullying Interest Group or would like more information, please contact Tracey Thompson at the STEP office or submit a request using the 'contact us' link (see above).
